A week in Guatemala #11

After weeks (I think there were months) of the last A Week in Guatemala post here is another photo collection of interesting things that happened in the past days. Enjoy the pics!

Let's start this post with a photo walk I did in Universidad Rafael Landivar Open House day. More pictures at the respective post entry over here.

I clean dusted an old Macintosh IIci that I found at home. You can check out the pictures in this post.

A calzone for lunch. For those who dont know, a calzone its like a wrapped pizza. Do you like Italian food?

Tea time with Kagami at Cafe Barista.

Guess which dessert I chose?

We had our Independence day celebrations. Over here we usually celebrate National Day with parades. Also, a few days before there was Election Day.

Cute girl spotted at the parade.

More pictures of Independence day parade can be found here.

Guatemala is as fabulous as people say, with ten times the visible, tangible culture that you'll find anywhere else. If you can, though, do your best to avoid the cliches: language school in Antigua (if you wanted to learn Spanish around other gringos, why did you leave home?), doing the dope thing around the terribly overpopulated Lake Atitlan (if you wanted to meet hippies who've hung around in one spot for way too long, there are safer places to do it). And hey, while I'm complaining, I might as well add this: please, please please don't contribute to the opinion the indigenous people have of foreigners in general. Specifically, consider the fact that most traditional indigenous people consider it an insult when foreigners buy indigenous clothing and parade around town in it - can you imagine (you white folks out there, anyway) deciding to pick up a turban, and don that in your own town? Get with it. Use a bit of common sense. Then again, anyone who's considerate enough to look into a trip before they leave, shouldn't need reminding anyway.

Rant's over. Thanks. Have fun. Be safe.
