Friday Easter - Guatemalan Way

procession, Friday, Easter, Guatemala,

Friday Easter is celebrated a little bit quite different in Guatemala. It is a tradition to celebrate the Faith and the Passion of Christ with wooden platforms being carry by man and/or women in a street procession performance.

There are several of this processions ceremonies in the country being the most famous the ones being held in Antigua Guatemala but the ones in the capital city are the largest.

Everyone can participate in the Easter Week. Some people do the carpets for the procession walk, some kids are dressed like Roman centurions or as little altar boys who burn incense in the streets.

Detail of the Jesus mounted in the wood platform. Some platforms are carry the men but there are some lighter wooden platform carried by women and children.

This post is double tagged also in the "A Week in Guatemala" series.

Souvenirs you can find in the streets.
